The Weller Magnastat system works through a ferromagnetic sensing device that changes its properties when specific temperatures are reached.
This means it either attracts or repels a permanent magnet that operates a switch.
This allows the power to the heating element to be quickly turned on or off to either provide additional current for soldering or reduce the current when idle.
Various preset tip temperatures are available to allow different types of soldering.
Selection of working temperature is achieved by simply changing the "temperature sensing" soldering tip.
